NAME: Love Pictured
LOCATION: UK
DESCRIPTION: This artist began crafting as a hobbie while planning for her wedding as she wanted to make the day as personal as possible. She loved doing this so much and with all the positive feedback she received from her big day, she decided to create her own online shop. Inspired by her great love of dogs, "Love Pictured" soon began providing customers with beautiful personalised gifts - our favourite being the free standing dogs which can be painted in any colour and contain a cute little tag around their neck with a hand written quote on it. We adore our gorgeous little black sheltie which has the quote "two legs move your body; four legs move your soul" written on its tag. This is the perfect shop if you're looking for a unique gift which will sit perfectely in anyone's home. If you dont see the breed of dog you are looking for, send her a message! You wont be disappointed

NAME: Da Trowie Knowe
LOCATION: Shetland
DESCRIPTION: We absolutely adore these - they're cute, they're fun and they're VERY Shetland! Nobody really knows who the trow catcher is... Legend has it though, that she originates from the lands of Whalsay and has dedicated her life to protecting the folk of Shetland from the perrels of troublesome trows who venture out at night to work their magic! Her identity can never be revealed, for the trow folk would surely seek revenge on the mysterious person kidnapping them in the night. The trow catcher ensures that the small creatures are comfortable in their new home (a jam jar sealed tight so they dont escape!) by making it resemble a little Shetland scene. She hand picks little shells, sand, stones and moss from the land around her to make it a nice environment inside before trapping the gluffsome (thats Shetland for "scary"!) little critters inside. Every now and again, she will capture one holding an item of theirs (our own trow was snatched still carrying his fiddle! If you listen quietly at night, you can usually hear him playing a tune). Once she has gathered a few of them, she secretly leaves them on the doorstep of two locations - "A One Floorng", Garthspool Road, Lerwick and "SHOARD", Brough, Whalsay. From here, you can pick up your own trow to take home!
WARNING: Owning a trow is great fun, but also carries a great responsibility! Never let it out of the jar - lest you want your clothes clawed, your animals spooked and your socks forever missing...

NAME: Greencroft Shetland
LOCATION: Shetland
DESCRIPTION: Greencroft Shetland is a family run business which specialises in beautifully crafted wooden gifts inspired by the culture and history of Shetland. Although they are most well known for their planters which are styled in the shape of an old Shetland croft-house, our favourite has to be their wooden shield and axe sets (perfect for up-helle-ah!). The sheer quality of their products is testament to their passion for providing gorgeous gifts which will last a very long time (particularly if your kids fancy being vikings for a day - naturally this envolves swinging the axe around a fair bit!). Our own shield has been lovingly made with the Hobbitpaws name on it and looks amazing up on the wall.

NAME: Claire Laurenson
LOCATION: Edinburgh
DESCRIPTION: Claire Laurenson is a talented artist originally from Shetland - although she is currently living in Edinburgh working towards a Masters in Psychology! She first began her passion for painting when she was only sixteen. Her style has developed a lot since then from primarily portraits in acrylic, to animals and birds in watercolour. But, she does of course like to experiment with other mediums and is always happy to try something new on request. Even though Clair works hard towards her eventual goal of becoming a Clinical Psychologist, music and art still take up a significant amount of her free time. Her current works in progress include two separate albums of songs (one solo and one with her band "Wulver" - look them up!) for which she is also hoping to create the album artwork.
The piece that was created for us was something very special and personal - a stunning water colour of our lovely departed Flint playing with Fenton. One sure way of deciphering whether or not an item of art is good is by the strength of emotions it evokes: needless to say, this portrait brought a tear to my and other family member’s eyes. The accuracy and likeness of the dogs is so precise that it could be a photo and for us, it brought both dogs together beautifully when the reality of such an event is impossible. Her work is both powerful and elegant and would make the perfect addition to any home.
